Abstract

The results of an experimental investigation of high frequency combustion instability in a fuel-air combustor are described. The phenomenon is described in terms of alterations in the flame geometry and pressure changes associated with the flow field. Quantitative measurements of the pressure fluctuations are presented and the effects of various system parameters on the instability are indicated. A possible mechanism for forcing and sustaining the oscillations as indicated by the experimental data is suggested and discussed.
