Inelastic K+p Reactions at Incident Momenta from 1.37 to 2.17 GeV/c
Abstract
Inelastic K+p reactions have been studied in a 400 000-picture exposure of the LRL 25-in. hydrogen bubble chamber. Cross sections have been obtained for single-pion and two-pion final states corresponding to the two-prong-V and four-prong topologies. These channels show a smooth energy dependence, consistent with observations at other momenta. The production and decay angular distributions for the quasi-two-body channels agree with the predictions of simple exchange models and show no evidence of an s-channel resonance. It is not possible, however, to place any quantitative limit on the production of a Z*. Quarkmodel relations for double-resonance production have been tested and are well satisfied by our data.
