Abstract
In earlier papers we have considered the problems of the scattering of elastic waves by a two-dimensional crack with either clamped or weak boundary conditions. The crack is considered to occupy the region y = 0, -1 < x < 1, - ∞ < z < ∞ in an otherwise infinite homogeneous elastic medium. In order to introduce the method of calculation, the scalar cases, that is, those in which the elastic displacement vector points in the z-direction, have been considered for the two types of boundary conditions.
