Open Access to the Aerosol Science and TechnologyArchive

Abstract

he American Association for Aerosol Research publishes Aerosol Science and Technology as a service to its members and to the aerosol research community world wide. This journal provides a forum for publication of the results of research into all facets of aerosol science and related technologies. Researchers from many disciplines of science and engineering participate in the AAAR conference and, increasingly, publish in its journal. Aerosol-related global climate issues, air quality and health effects of pollutant aerosols, indoor air quality, biological aerosols, particle formation in combustion, pollutant emissions and emissions control, new materials and devices, instrumentation, and fundamental aerosol chemistry and physics all are addressed within these pages. Although the work presented here focuses on the role of aerosols, it impacts the full range of activities in these diverse areas of investigation. In partnership with our publisher, Taylor & Francis, the AAAR has accelerated publication through the implementation of E-First, an accelerated electronic publishing system that makes articles available on-line within weeks of acceptance by the Editors. These electronically published articles are published in their final form, with full citation information including the volume, issue, and pages of the print version. The electronic articles are available to both individual members and institutional subscribers of the journal as part of the basic subscription. Recognizing the importance of exposing aerosol science to the research community at large, the AAAR is pleased to take another important step in electronic publication. In January, 2004 we are opening access to electronic versions of Aerosol Science and Technology published in 2002 and earlier (Volumes 30–36) to all readers rather than being restricted to subscribers. The next volume will be added to the open electronic archives in each subsequent year. In opening access to the electronic archives of Aerosol Science and Technology, the AAAR acknowledges that researchers need to share their results with the society that provided the funding to perform the research.
