Abstract
It is my enjoyable task to present to you the winner of the F. W. Clarke Medal for 1978, Dr. Donald J. DePaolo. The Clarke Medal, as you know, is awarded to a young scientist for an outstanding contribution to geochemistry or cosmochemistry. The award to Don DePaolo is made on the basis of a contribution embodied in three already well-known papers published in 1976 and 1977, with titles as follows: 1. "Nd isotopic variations and petrogenetic models"; 2. "Inferences about magma sources and mantle structure from variations of the ratio 143Nd/144Nd"; 3. "Sources of island arcs as indicated by Nd and Sr isotope studies" (Geophys. Res Lett. 3, 249: 3, 743: 4. 465).
