Mineralogic and isotopic investigations on lunar rock 12013

Abstract

Sample 12013, 10 was a sawn slab, 50 X 22 X 4 mm, cut from a position about 6 mm from an exterior surface of lunar sample 12013 returned from the Apollo 12 mission. Because of its extreme heterogeneity it was delivered to our clean-lab for division and distribution to the various principal investigators. Prior to division it was carefully examined and photographed and preliminary Rb/Sr and microprobe results were obtained on loose fragments found in the sample container. Thin section 12013, 4 (Apollo 12 sample catalog) from an unknown part of the sample also provided some guidance in the distribution.

Brown and Lily Ray. Miss V. Debelak handled all nine authors more efficiently than our time-shared computer. This work was supported by NASA Contract NAS 9-8074. The microprobe laboratory has been developed with the support of NSF, JPL, and the Union Pacific Foundation; the mass spectrometric instrumentation was developed under NSF grant GP 9114.
