Report of committee on basic research in the field of industrial minerals and rocks

Abstract

In December 1945 the Council of the Society of Economic Geologists authorized the appointment of a committee to further research in economic geology, and in February 1946, this committee began to outline a program under the chairmanship of C. H. Behre, Jr. As pointed out in a recent issue of this Journal, the principal fields of research in economic geology were judged to include ore deposits, coal, petroleum and related products, nonmetallics other than fuels, ground water, and engineering geology.
