Abstract
More than a quarter of a century has elapsed since last a report of this kind was presented before the general assembly of the Paleontological Society. The annual presidential address, entitled: An outline of progress in palaeontological research on the Pacific Coast, given before the Society in 1917 by my distinguished predecessor, the late Dr. John C. Merriam (Vertebrate Paleontology, 1921), gave an account of the early period of exploratory work and research, and reviewed particularly what had been accomplished during the span of time measured by his active participation while resident professor at the University of California.
