Abstract
William Warren Orcutt, a member of the Southern California Academy of Sciences for thirty-five years, died on April 27, 1942. He was born in Concord, Dodge County, Minnesota, seventy-three years ago. At the age of twelve he moved with his parents, John Hall Orcutt and Adeline Marion Warren Orcutt, to Santa Paula, California. Here he attended public school and the Santa Paula Academy, enrolling in 1891 in the first class of a then new institution of higher education, Stanford University. During his college career he majored in civil engineering and geology, but found time also to demonstrate his prowess on the track and in football. He played on the varsity eleven with Walter Camp as coach, and was a member of the team whose business manager was Herbert Hoover.
