Geology of the Panamint silver district, California

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the geology of the Panamint mining district, situated in the Panamint Range, southeastern California. The numerous clean-cut silver-bearing fissure veins of this district which occur largely in limestone, have received but slight attention from geologists in the past. The geology of the district and the mineralogy of the deposits are relatively simple. There is much conflict in the many more or less indefinite accounts of the extent of production from the several mines, but it seems safe to state that the gross value of the output was over $2,000,000. The work upon which this paper is based was done in the graduate school of the California Institute of Technology. I am indebted to Dr. F. L.
