Maar on Titan

Abstract
Using radar data from the Cassini spacecraft, Mitri and colleagues found morphologic similarities between polar Lake basins on Titan and terrestrial maars, which are produced by explosive eruptions of vapour. They propose that during cooler episodes in Titan's past – when the moon's hydrosphere was dominated by nitrogen instead of methane – warming events could have readily driven explosions of subsurface nitrogen.
