Synthesis and reactivity of group 4 complexes supported by redox noninnocent anthracene-bisphenoxide ligands
Chicago
Abstract
Transition metal complexes with pendant arenes have been demonstrated to support diverse chem. including deoxygenation of CO, carbide-CO coupling, nitride-CO coupling, CO_2 activation, and cross-coupling chem. To further expand on the utility of pendant arenes in redox chem., an anthracene linked bisphenoxide ligand was designed for early transition metals. Two electron chem. was obsd. with Zr and Ti complexes where the redox events are based on the anthracene motif. Transformations such as C-C reductive coupling and oxidative coupling of alkynes with nitriles or CO_2 have been obsd. Pyrimidines can be prepd. catalytically with high selectivity in this system. The role of the redox-active anthracene motif will be discussed.
