Abstract
We combined open-circuit voltage (OCV) measurements at equilibrium at the ambient temperatures and during thermal aging of Li/LiMO half-cells (M=transition metal) in 60-75ºC temperatures range and electrochemical entropymetry to indirectly determine the self-discharge current in the cells at the corresponding aging temperature. Comparison of normalized currents show highest self-discharge rates in LiMn_2O_4 and lowest in Li(NiMnCo_(1/3)O_2, LiCoO_2 being intermediary. The results are discussed in terms of lithium re- intercalation induced phase transitions associated with electrolyte oxidation together with the phases intrinsic stability and their reactivity with the electrolyte.
