Abstract
Biol. electron transfers often occur between metal-contg. cofactors that are sped. By very large mol. distances. Understanding the underlying physics and chem. of these long-range redox processes is the goal of much of the work in my lab. In collaboration with Jay Winkler, Jieun Shin, Shabnam Hematian, and Brian Sanders have investigated laser-triggered electron flow through native, mutant, and Ru-modified multicopper oxides. The results indicate that Trp and Tyr residues near the trinuclear (type 2/type 3) site play key roles during catalysis of substrate oxidsn. by these enzymes.
