On Arsenomethane

Abstract

It was hoped that on the basis of an electron diffraction study a definite structure could be assigned to arsenornethane (CH_3As)_n that would establish the correct formula for this particular arseno compound. It proved impossible to determine the structure unambiguously on the basis of the diffraction data alone, although the double bond structure could be definitely eliminated. Vapor density measurements were therefore undertaken for the information they might provide regarding the degree of polymerization of arsenomethane in the vapor state. The present study also includes an investigation of some other properties of arsenomethane.
