Abstract
This paper provides an overview of recent ideas and novel paradigms in data networking, with some discussion on how they can be leveraged in modern scientific applications. In it, we discuss the dynamic circuit services providing bandwidth guarantees to the application, the Software Defined Networking principle and the OpenFlow protocol, showing a number of possible application scenarios. We conclude with a glimpse of the Information Centric Networking paradigm, one of the Future Internet Architecture directions being researched today.
