A Continuous Electroelution Method for the Recovery of DNA Restriction Enzyme Fragments

Abstract
Bacterial restriction enzymes are deoxyribonucleases which cleave double-stranded DNA at specific sites and produce unique, high molecular-weight fragments. These enzymes provide a most powerful tool for studying the structure and function of DNA. The principal method for separation of the DNA fragments is electrophoresis through acrylamide or agarose gels. However, when fragments are to be isolated for further analysis, continuous elution from long cylindrical gels allows maximum separation and recovery.
