Abstract
The replication of the phage φX174, a single-stranded DNA-containing phage, involves the formation of a double-stranded component, the " replicat ive form" (Sinsheimer, Starman, Nagler & Guthrie, 1962). Therefore in studying the mechanism of replication of the single-stranded RNA-containing phage, MS2, an obvious approach is to look for an analogous double-stranded material.
