The Replication of Bacteriophage MS2 II. An in vivo Specificity for the Synthesis of Infective RNA
Chicago
Abstract
Multiple infection with wild-type MS2 and a plaque-morphology mutant of MS2 is demonstrated. An infectivity assay for phage RNA is described and growth curves for intracellular infective RNA in MS2-infected cells are presented which demonstrate the presence of a pool of infective RNA prior to the appearance of progeny virus particles. Experiments are described which indicate that the synthetic system established in an MS2-infected cell will not be used to produce infective RNA of a genetically distinguishable superinfecting phage.
