Abstract
1. A method of preparing polyribosomes from any strain of Escherichia coli is described. 2. The polyribosome patterns obtained vary with the growth rate (growth media) of the cell. When the cells are grown (in rich media) with a short generation time, there are very few 30-S and 50-S ribosome subunits; when the cells are grown (in a poor medium) with a long generation time, the relative proportion of ribosome subunits increases greatly. 3. Under particular growth conditions, the polyribosome pattern varies with the strain of cell used.
