Abstract
It is now well-recognized that there are two global motifs for targeting the minor groove of DNA based on analogs of the N-methylpyrrole-carboxamide ring of the natural product distamycin. There exist 1:1 and 2:1 stoichiometries with quite different rules of recognition and specificity. This ambiguity of sequence targeting depending on stoichiometry raises a serious design issue for the DNA recognition field.
