Six-membered cyclic diacyl peroxide fragmentations. Thermal decomposition of meso- and dl-2,3-dimethylsuccinoyl peroxides

Abstract
We report the syntheses and thermal decomposition of meso- and dl-2,3-dimethylsuccinoyl peroxides (1 and 2, respectively). These initial findings provide the first stereochemical study of six-membered cyclic diacyl peroxide thermal fragmentations. The data presented here are consistent with a common intermediate(s) but do not require the generation of electronically excited states of the 2-butene products.
