Abstract
We report the synthesis, infrared and electronic spectra, and the kinetics of the thermal decomposition of N-(2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolidyl)nitrene (1). Because the six-membered ring 1,1-diazene 2 has been characterized, these results allow some estimate of the importance of structure on the spectral properties and kinetic behavior of 1,1-dialkyldiazenes. In addition, the first approximate heat of formation of a 1,1-diazene from experiment is provided.
