The Prospect for Designed Genetic Change

Abstract
There has been much talk about the possibility of human genetic modification--of designed genetic change, specifically of mankind. I think there should be much discussion of this topic. I think this possibility--which we now glimpse for the first time-is potentially one of the most important concepts to arise in the history of mankind. I can think of none with greater long-range implications for the future of our species. Indeed, this concept marks a turning point in the whole evolution of life. For the first time in all time a living creature understands its origin and can undertake to design its future.
