Abstract
We compare the partial photoionization cross section of the 4σ_g level in CO_2 as obtained by the continuum multiple-scattering method and the Stieltjes moment theory approach with those given by the direct solution of the scattering equations for the e-CO_2^+ system. This cross section contains a shape resonance at a photon energy of about 40 eV. There are substantial differences between the cross sections predicted by these methods. We discuss these differences and the implications of these differences for the methods.
