Abstract
The structure 2,4-dichloro-3-phenyl-3-hutenoic acid (II) , previously proposed for the product of the base-induced ring opening of 2,4-dichloro-3-phenylcyclohutenone (I) is supported by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and demonstration of the presence of an asymmetric center by partial resolution.
