Abstract
Spin-spin coupling between protons separated by 5 to 9 chemical bonds has been observed in allenic and polgacetylenic systems. Analysis of the n.m.r. spectrum of 1-chloro-1,2-butadiene by various techniques permits assignment of a sign to J_u opposite to that of J_(12) and J_u. Relation of these results to the theory of proton-proton spin-spin coupling is discussed.
