Small-Ring Compounds. XXXX. The Structure and Properties of a Dimer of Triphenylfluorocyclobutadiene
Chicago
Abstract
The chemistry of the previously described substance, C_(44)H_(30)F_2 from the reaction of 1,1-difluoro-2,4-dichloro-3-phenylcyclobutene and phenyllithium is described. The physical and chemical data presented are best interpreted in terms of an anti-tricyclo[4.2.0.0] octadiene structure for the substance which could arise by dimerization of triphenylfluorocyclobutadiene. The recent X-ray diffraction study of the substance by Hughes and Fritchie has confirmed the proposed structure.
