Efforts toward the Synthesis of Aliphatic Iodonium Salts

Abstract

Although diaryliodonium salts have been known for almost 74 years salts in which one or both of the ligands are not aromatic are quite rare. Some years ago, Lachman tried unsuccessfully to prepare phenylethyliodonium chloride from diethylzinc and iodobenzene dichloride. Neilands and coworkers have prepared some interesting iodonium betaines derived from the enolate anions of dimedone, methyl acetoacetate, 5-phenyl-1 ,3-cyclohexanedione, and dibenzoylmethane. Recently, Beringer and Galton have synthesized some acetylenic iodonium salts by the reaction between a lithium acetylide and iodobenzene dichloride.
