Abstract
The kinetics of the photoinduced reductive dissolution of ɑ-Fe_2O_3 by bisulfite in anoxic colloidal suspensions have been investigated. Quantum yields, Φ_(Fe(II)), as a function of wavelength for Fe(II)_(aq) production were obtained. Photochemical reactivity has been discussed in terms of the excitation of the O^(2-) to Fe^(3+) charge-transfer band of α-Fe_2O_3 and in terms of photoassisted charge-transfer reactions of Fe(III)-S(IV) surficial complexes.
