Atom-abstraction as a synthetic tool
Chicago
Abstract
Three-coordinate complexes of formula M(N[R]Ar)_3 (R = C(CD_3)_2CH_3; Ar = 3,5- C_6H_3Me_2) have been found to serve as halogen (M = Ti) and nitrogen or phosphorus (M =Mo) abstraction agents. A variety of reactions have been investigated with the intent of delineating chemistry arising as a consequence of atom-abstraction. As an example, reaction of Mo(N[R]Ar)_3 with N=Mo(S-1 adamantyl)_3 leads to intermetal N-atom transfer via an observable nitrido-bridged intermediate.
