(Phosphino)borate coordination chemistry
Chicago
Abstract
We are studying a host of complexes that are supported by (phosphino)borate ligands. For example, coordination of a tris(phosphino)borate ligand to a divalent cobalt(ll) center gives rise to a low spin, cobalt(ll) species that is 4-coordinate, psuedo-tetrahedral, and monomeric. Virtually all related complexes are high spin. Moreover, this low spin species can be directly converted to a 4-coordinate, high spin relative by clean oxidation of the phosphine donor ligand. Aspects of this and/or related work will be discussed.
