Abstract

We thank Royse for explicitly raising a point that we did not make completely clear in our paper: evidence that establishes a Tertiary age for the development of the Las Vegas shear zone. This is a problem not only for the shear zone but for the Garlock fault as well. In the case of both faults, the principal matching features across them which demonstrate large displacement and/or bending are of Mesozoic age or older, indicating that displacements could have occurred during the Mesozoic.
