A MicroRNA-mediated feedback loop controls vascular inflammatory signaling

Abstract

Activation of inflammatory signaling pathways in the endothelium contributes to vascular diseases, including sepsis and atherosclerosis. We find that a microRNA family (miR-146a and miR-J46b) is induced in endothelial cells upon exposure to pro-inflammatory cytokinc. Although transcription of the miR-146alb loci is rapidly induced, induction of mature miR-146a/b is delayed and sustained compared to the expression of leukocyte adhesion molecules, and in fact coincides with the down-regulation of inflammatory gene expression.
