Photonic crystal microcavities for strong coupling between an atom and the cavity field

Abstract
We have demonstrated theoretically that photonic crystal (PC) cavities can be designed for strong interaction with atoms trapped in one of the PC holes. At present, we are working on further optimization of the design and the characterization of fabricated structures.
