Abstract
The mechanisms that guide the development of multipotent, self-renewing stem cells into committed lymphocytes are currently being resolved at a rapid pace. This collection of reviews is predominantly focused on recent studies that have provided insight into how progeny cells segregate from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) into cell lineages with distinct, restricted developmental potentials. In the present collection special attention has been paid to the transcriptional programs that underpin the developmental choices made by developing hematopoietic cells prior to becoming committed to a certain cell fate.
