Abstract
Recent experimental and theoretical studies on the decomposition mechanism, erosive burning, sonance and resonance for solid composite propellants are described. An attempt has been made to discuss recent advances and to define important areas where additional studies are needed.

The studies at Aerojet-General Corporation have been supported through the following agencies: Department of the Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics, Contract NOa(S52-359); U.S. Air Force, Wright Air Development Center, Contract AF 33(616)-2551; U.S. Air Force, Office of Scientific Research, Air Research and Development Command, Contracts AF-18(600) 1025, AF 18(603)-74 and AF 18(600)-1048. Some theoretical studies on the burning of composite propellants were performed with Dr. W. Nachbar of the Missile Systems Division, Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, under Contract AF 18(603)-146 with the Office of Scientific Research, U.S. Air Force. Fundamental studies on "Chemical Reactions in Flow Systems" at the California Institute of Technology have been supported under Contract DA 04-495-Ord-446 with the Office of Ordnance Research, U.S. Army.
