Abstract

The M 7.8 ShakeOut Scenario earthquake would result in thousands of physical injuries both directly from the ground motion and the resulting damage as well as from secondary hazards [e.g., fire-following-earthquake] . . . Overall, the earthquake is expected to result in almost 50,000 injuries requiring treatment, 750 injuries requiring specialized trauma or burn care, and almost 1800 deaths."
