Abstract
Forced convection heat transfer was investigated for two granular materials flowing along a chute. For each material and for a given depth of flow, the heat transfer coefficient at first increases with velocity, then reaches a maximum and decreases as the velocity increases further. This behavior is believed to be related to changes in the packing density of the material caused by the flow field.
