Space Density of Z > 4 Quasars from the Second Palomar Sky Survey

Abstract

In recent years, several groups have undertaken searches for quasars at very high redshifts with the aim of computing quasar space densities as well as providing quasars for studies of intervening material. Schmidt et al. (1995; SSG) have computed densities at 2.7 < z < 4.7 from 90 quasars discovered through their Lyα emission. Warren et al. (1994; WHO) have computed densities at 2.2 < z < 4.5 using quasars discovered in a photographic multicolor survey. Irwin et al. (1991; IMH) have discovered 31 quasars in a photographic multicolor survey for bright quasars at z > 4.
