Gravitational pulse of an earthquake
- Creators
- Keane, James Tuttle
Abstract
Panet et al. analyse variations in Earth's gravity field measured by the GRACE satellite leading up to, during, and after the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake. They show that gravity variations, which are due to changes in mass distribution, can be used to yield a view of the plate motions and deformation that occurs across thousands of kilometers before and after a large earthquake event.
