Abstract
DR. Joseph Weber (University of Maryland, College Park, Md.): I would like to state a theorem and also a conjecture. The theorem is that there exists at least one method of instrumenting gravitational radiation detectors that will show coincidences, and that the number of coincidences will exceed the number of accidentals. Then one can conclude, using the principles of particle physics, that one is actually seeing something. My conjecture is that there exist an infinite number of ways of doing the instrumentation, and an infinite number of ways of not getting any results.
