Introduction to the Physics of the Earth's Interior [Book Review]

Abstract

It is often asserted that we know more about the interiors of stars than we know about the interior of our own planet. Stars, of course, convect and radiate information about their composition to our waiting spectrometers. They do not have cold, opaque crusts or, if they did, we would know little about these objects. Compared with most samples which scientists study, the Earth is remarkably difficult to get information out of. And, of course, it cannot be dissected and there is only one sample.
