Forces on a Cylinder Planing in a Vapor Cavity
- Creators
- Kermeen, R. W.
Abstract
The results of an experimental program carried out in the High Speed Water Tunnel to measure the forces on a cylinder planing on the inside surface of a vapor cavity are pre sen ted. Curves of lift, drag, and pitching moment coefficients and position of the center of pressure of the planing cylinder are given as functions of planing angle and draught. A brief description of the vapor cavity, spray configurations, and cylinder cavitation are included.
