Abstract
Ab initio calculations are presented for the photon catalysed autoionisation of the metastable 1s2s2p^4P_(5/2)^0 state of lithium. It is shown that, when the photon frequency is resonant with the 1s2s2p^4P_(5/2)^0-1s2p_(22)P_(3/2) transition frequency, the probability induced by a 1 ns laser pulse becomes larger than the 'natural' probability for laser powers larger than 1.5x10^(11) W cm^(-2).
